Sylvan Academy of Music
Founded in 1990, The Sylvan Academy of Music has been training students in Northern New Jersey in both musical performance and music theory. Within our academy, there are many opportunties for performance during recitals, concerts, and our orchestra's performances. We offer assistance and preparation for all ABRBS Grade Exams, as well as instruction in music theory and composition. In the summer, we offer special programs in intensive chamber music study and a string music camp in Pennsylvania. We offer private instruction in violin, viola, piano, cello, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, guitar, drums, and jazz piano. We also offer Suzuki group classes for violinists, as well as ensembles, including the New Jersey Youth String Orchestra.
Our faculty members are graduates of renowned and distinguished music schools. Many also currently teach at prestigious schools in the area, such as the pre-college divisions of the Manhattan School of Music, Mannes College of Music, and The Juilliard School. They are all active performers as well as current members of orchestras and ensembles throughout the New York City area, continuing their professional performances and studies.
The Sylvan Academy of Music is a member of the NJ Music Teachers Association, Suzuki Teachers Association, and American String Teachers Association. Our facility has been selected as the Bergen County Center for the Associated Board of the Royal Board Schools of Music, based in England. We take pride in having prepared many students for high school, undergraduate, and graduate studies in performance, composition and theory--many of whom have gone on to be successfull, confident, and proud musicians. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of our students and their families with the joyful experience of music.
